Wow! Who says home and away can't pull surprises? A shocking twist has aired that has seen John Palmer been found guilty of manslaughter and five counts of arson and being punished with a fifteen year jail sentence! The episode started off with John arriving in court and a doctor claiming that he fits the profile of a serial arsonist and was still a threat to Summer Bay. However, Nate Cooper testified that John wasn't the one lighting those fires, it was the tumour. However, his testimony didn't count for much, given his recent redundancy from the hospital. As the court left for lunch, Morag told Marilyn that John's chances weren't looking good. As the court returned, the prosecution questioned John, as the questions became very tough, John lashed out, protesting that he is not a bad man! As all hope seemed lost for John, Billie's husband VJ Patterson, entered the court and gave a character statement. He said that John is a good man and doesn't deserve to go to jail. At this point, we were convinced that John wouldn't go to jail! However, Home and away delivered a huge shock when the jury announced that John Palmer was guilty of all charges! As the police brought John into a police van, Marilyn was shocked that he was sentenced to fifteen years in jail, but Morag assured her that they would appeal. As he was shoved into the van, Marilyn and John said that they loved each other. Does this mean that we won't see John Palmer for another fifteen years? Or will another twist see John's appeal turn out great and he could be released sooner than we think?
