John in court and a popular character returns!

Home and Away pulled off one of the biggest shocks ever in the 2016 season finale when they revealed John Palmer, one of the most trusted people in the bay, to be a dangerous serial arsonist... John had lit five fires in the bay. Two of them at the caravan park, one of them at the garage, one of them in Brody's van and one in the bush. So far only one person has fallen victim to his acts. Billie Ashford inhaled a lot of smoke during her dramatic labour scenes at the bushfire. Although it seemed like she was fine to begin with, she met her untimely end right after her wedding to VJ Patterson. Last October, pictures emerged of John outside court, seemingly facing trial. Next week, Kat Chapman figures out that John is the arsonist and he is devastated to realise that he was responsible for Billie's death and his wife Marilyn suffering significant burns. Last year, John hit his head on the deck of a boat and was told that he had a bleed on the brain, the doctors assured him that it was harmless, but it clearly wasn't as he started lighting fires. Cornelia Frances will be returning to her role as Morag Bellingham and will most probably be defending John at his trial. Next month will see John confide in Marilyn, informing her that he will not fight the arson charges. But can John really cope with going to jail? Will he be found guilty? Or can Morag help him avoid jail?

Home and away has been doing a storyline since February about who should get custody of Luc Ashford, following the tragic demise of Billie Ashford. Three people went for custody: VJ Patterson, who was Billie's husband, who Billie wanted to have custody of Luc. Billie's brother Ash and Irene Roberts. Last month, VJ shook Luc's cot and threw a mug across the room because he was very stressed. Everyone thought that VJ would get custody, given that Billie wanted him to, but there was no record of this. Irene wanted to go for custody, mainly because she didn't want Ash to get care of Luc. Irene kindly offered to look after Luc whilst VJ focused on his studies. Can VJ save John from jail?

Monday night's episode will see John Palmer face court after starting the bushfire last December that led to the death of Billie Ashford. John was under the influence of a brain tumour and had no recollection of what he was doing, the tumour was successfully removed. Last month, we saw the return of Morag Bellingham, returning in the bay to defend John in court in the hope to spare him a jail sentence. He was previously urged to plead guilty and serve only two years or take the risk at the chance that he could be spared jail or go to jail for ten years! He decided to plead not guilty, much to the relief of his wife, Marilyn. However, the trial might not go as smoothly as they had hoped. The trial doesn't go that well at the start when Dr Bernice Chung takes the stand and protests that John fits the profile of a serial arsonist and is still a huge threat to the community.
